Ross to contest red card

-

Walsall 2 Sunderland 2 JACK ROSS hopes Max Power’s third red card of the term for Sunderland can be overturned.

Power was dismissed in the 23rd minute in a tackle neither managers thought warranted a red.

The Saddlers led a minute into the second half as Nicky Devlin’s near-post cross was steered home by Josh Gordon from six yards.

Josh Ginnelly doubled the advantage after 52 minutes, leaving two Sunderland defenders in his wake, before lashing a stunning effort on goal into the top corner.

Sunderland gave themselves hope after 61 minutes as Aiden McGeady met Lynden Gooch’s cross with a finish from 15 yards. And the comeback was completed a minute from time as Gooch swivelled in the box and fired into the bottom corner.

After the match, the main talking point was Power’s dismissal.

“My gut reaction at the time was that it wasn’t even a yellow card,” said Ross.

“I’ve watched it back and I still think it’s not even a yellow card. If it isn’t overturned, I would be amazed.

“Without a shadow of doubt we will appeal. If I had no TV replays I would have appealed it. But I’ve watched it back and it wasn’t even close. It’s nothing. Our reaction to going two goals down was outstanding – not many teams will play that way with 10 men and two goals down.” Walsall boss Dean Keates was disappointed with his side’s game management. “We’re massively disappointed given the situation we were in, 2-0 up against 10 men. We didn’t manage the game well. “Decisionmaking has cost us. “Decisionmaking in football is massive – the best players make the best decisions. We showed we are a little bit naive, that’s probably through a lack of experience.”
