Rom’s key to Dy deal

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

SERGIO AGUERO has warned Manchester City’s rivals that he is committed to landing a historic QUADRUPLE – and is happier than ever to be at the Etihad.

The in-form striker insists City are not only determined to pip Liverpool to the Premier League title, but also hungry to lift the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup as well.

The first opportunity for silverware comes next weekend when City face Chelsea, who they thrashed 6-0 last weekend, in the Carabao Cup Final.

But Aguero says Pep Guardiola (right) and his players – who go to Schalke in the last 16 in Europe on Wednesday – are in such great form that they believe they can win them all.

Aguero said: “If you get to this stage in the season with a chance to win four titles, it means you are doing well.

“And I wish it would happen. I’m ambitious, and you have to aim high.

“I know that nobody has ever done it before and I would like us to go down in history. For me, too, I want to be the one who scores goals in all the finals. I see this City team as having the capacity to win everything – and so that is our challenge.”

Those are frightening words for City’s rivals, and particularly for Jurgen Klopp, whose Liverpool side are already out of the FA Cup and Carabao Cup but dreaming of ending their long wait for a league title.

Aguero’s remarkable form means that it would take a brave man to bet against City upsetting Klopp’s best-laid plans.

The Argentina striker racked up yet another hat-trick in that trouncing of Chelsea last weekend, and already has 23 club goals under his belt this season.

No wonder City fans are talking about the 30-year-old as possibly the greatest City player of all time.

And the good news for those supporters is that Aguero insists there is even more to come.

He has regularly been linked with moves away from England over the years, but insists that he is loving it at the Etihad and has no plans to go anywhere.

Aguero added: “City are a champion team with a champion coach. What else am I going to want?

“I’m very happy at City and, for now, I don’t even think about leaving.

“It’s a great club that always looks after its players. I saw it from the very first day that I arrived, and it’s continued ever since.”

Aguero says that he has no plans, either, for what he does after football.

The Argentina star said: “I still don’t know what I will do when I finish playing, but I will continue in the football world, that’s for sure.

“For now I just dream of winning titles with City every season – that is my main challenge.”

What’s certain is that Aguero’s legacy, when he eventually does leave City, is going to be a remarkable one.

He has already won three Premier League titles – scoring the last-gasp winner against QPR which won the league in 2012 – and three League Cups. The striker admitted: “That goal in injury time against QPR is always on my mind, even now.

“It meant a first league title, and so many things for me too.

“At that moment, I knew for certain I had not been wrong to leave Atletico Madrid to start on this adventure. “And there is more to come.”

Given his incredible contribution to City’s history – he already has 222 goals for the club – it wouldn’t be a big surprise if there were calls for a statue of the Argentine star to be commissioned at the Etihad when he finally waves goodbye.

Aguero is too modest to even think about that.

“A statue outside the stadium? Oh, I don’t know,” he said. “I think I would look very strange. And maybe it would be too much. But these things do not depend on me. I just want to win trophies and score goals.

“Our first opportunity is the Carabao Cup, and we will take if from there. But we will have to fight for everything.”
