STEVENAGE 2

- By DEAN ELLIOTT at Sincil Bank

DANNY COWLEY believes Lincoln must be more clinical after being stung by Stevenage’s late double.

The League Two leaders looked set to extend their advantage to four points at the top after a brace from Bruno Andrade.

But a pair of magnificent efforts from Ilias Chair, a curler beyond keeper Grant Smith in the 87th minute and one from out wide on the right in added time, saw the Imps pegged back.

“We’r e bitt e r l y disappointed, having got a good foothold in the game,” said Cowley.

“To concede two goals so late is upsetting. Credit to Chair but we need look at those moments and also at the performance.

“It took us too long to get a foothold in the game. We came out in the second half with more intent.

“We should have been more clinical and scored the third, but weren’t and then conceded those late goals.”

Stevenage boss Dino Maamria, who was sent to the stands by referee Jeremy Simpson after sprinting half the length of the pitch to c e l e b ra te Chair’s dramatic late equaliser with the travelling fans, feels his side are punching above their weight. “When we lost at Tranmere last week, a big deal got made of it,” said Maamria.

“But we’ve got what we’ve got and we’re pushing the players as much as we can.

“Trust me, there is nobody more ambitious than me. I am relentless and I want to get as high as I can. I have to win and I know how to win, but we can’t get carried away.

“We are ninth in the league with some big clubs up there.”

the point and the performance.”

Cobblers boss Keith Curle (below) echoed Cioffi’s views, and said: “It was a point well-earned and a clean sheet.

“It wasn’t a classic by any stretch, but we looked solid defensively and that’s pleasing after conceding four in our last home game.

“It was very important to show the resolve and make sure we kept a clean sheet because if things don’t come off in the final third, you walk off the pitch with a 0-0.”
