Huge rise in number of botches

-

Specialists who deal with correcting botched cosmetic procedures say the number of victims they are seeing is soaring.

TV’s Dr Tijion Esho, who handles cosmetic issues on E4’s Body Fixers, set up the Esho Initiative to fix botched fillers for free.

He has seen a 50 per cent rise in the past year in people seeking help.

And he says corrective work now accounts for up to 30 per cent of his list.

Meanwhile Save Face – the government-approved list of medically trained professionals who can administer botox and fillers – got a total of 934 complaints last year about unregistered practitioners.

Founder Ashton Collins told how botox and filler kits bought online have led to a surge in people doing it for as little as £90.

BRAZEN

She said: “These people who order their products online and pick up a syringe without training are not breaking the law.

“People are so brazen, they use it to cash in on things like Love Island or the Kardashians.

“The majority of young people we speak to feel like it’s like having hair or nails done, but they can end up sat in front of someone unscrupulous.

“You go into it blindly, they’re doing it blindly, and when it goes wrong they leave you to fend for yourself.”

Save Face says 48 per cent of last year’s complaints were from women aged 18 to 25.

Ashton wants the practice limited to medical professionals.

She said: “We created this register to make sure people could navigate their way to a safe pair of hands. You need to know that a person can identify any complications.”
