BGT Colin: I want Colin Firth to play me in a movie of my life

TV singer, 89, is writing book

BRITAIN’S Got Talent winner Colin Thackery is writing his inspirational life story – and hopes dashing Colin Firth will play him in the movie.

The 89-year-old Korean War veteran – the oldest winner of the TV talent show – is also lining up a duet with Katherine Jenkins as his first album is released.

And after a whirlwind two months since his victory, the Chelsea Pensioner hopes he’s about to make his greatest dream come true by meeting the Queen at the Royal Variety Performance.

Colin, whose prize was £250,000, a recording deal and a slot on the bill for the prestigious show, said: “It would be the icing on the cake if Her Majesty was there. She’s an inspiration.

“That’s who I served. When I signed on, you sign on to serve the Queen. And it’s always been like that.

She’s been the constant throughout most of my life and career. I’ve seen the Queen but never met her so that would be the absolute dream.”

One royal Colin has now met is Elizabeth’s grandson Harry, who he saw at a recent event.

“His speech was marvellous,” he revealed. “He said, ‘ What a great year it’s been – and we have the Britain’s Got Talent champion in the room’. That was nice.

“Later Harry said hello and that he’d see me in November.”

Colin’s debut album is set for release on September 20.

And it could herald a collaboration with Welsh classical crossover star Kathryn, 39.

Colin revealed: “She came to our club a couple of weeks ago and asked to see me.

“She said she wanted to sing with me. That’d be the dream. We’re on the same label, Decca, so watch this space.”

Colin will also be back on TV next month for Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions.

But recording the show was bittersweet as it reminded him of his wife Joan, who died in 2016.

“I sing Ed Sheeran’s Supermarket Flowers on the album and on the show,” he revealed.

“I got emotional listening to the words – I had to pack her belongings after she died.”

Poignantly, he added: “It would have been nice to have had this success sooner. It would’ve been lovely to share it with Joan.”

Colin, who comes from Norwich, only auditioned

for BGT because of a dare from a pal. “I was in the artillery and was used to shooting long distances but nothing like this,” he added.

“I’ve been propelled. I couldn’t believe I’ve got a record deal.

“My story is going into a book. When I go, what will be left of my stories?

“That’s what my son said so he encouraged me to do the book.

“My agent says it could be a film. I’d like Colin Firth to play me.

“My daughter’s a little concerned by all the work.

“But it’s like being on a roundabout – it may be going too fast but one day it’ll just stop and you’ll fall off.

“You enjoy it until then.”

Katherine Jenkins came to our club and said she’d like to sing with me. Watch this space!
