Board, not bored

lemon sauce, as well as towering burgers and seafood options.

After lunch it was tennis. There are four courts – three hard and one artificial grass – named after the grand slams.

I was on Wimbledon for a lesson with resort tennis supremo Leah. She was the perfect mix of teasing and encouraging.

Equipment and courts are free, but for lessons you need to book.

It’s not all serious though, with sessions tending to end with a fun game... and that’s before we took part in the weekly Tipsy Tennis event when guests compete – drink in hand – in light- hearted challenges while they get to know each other. And alongside the daytime activities, there’s plenty to do in the evenings too.

You’ll find everything from the pub quiz on Monday (top tip, do NOT try to argue about a “correct” answer – you will get nowhere) through to dancing and music.

Of course, while there’s plenty to keep the whole family occupied – with childcare during the day included – life does exist outside the resort too.

Deciding to explore, we took an easy, 10-minute bike ride along the coast to the village of Paleros.

It’s as pretty as you could hope for – with a marina packed with yachts, a centre with lively tavernas and bars, and little shops for souvenirs.

If you’d rather head out of the resort on the water than by bike, you can hire a boat for a tour of the bay, or borrow a kayak and take yourself.

We signed up for the organised Kayak Safari, where you paddle out into the bay as a group, accompanied by staff and a safety boat. During the easy paddle, we were introduced to the history of the area – from Paleros’ ancient past to the island of Skorpios once owned by Jackie Onassis.

Halfway, we pulled in to a shaded pretty cove to stretch our legs and have a different sort of paddle.

But there was something even better for our next stop – Ammos beach bar.

A short stroll from the resort, this oasis offers chilled soft drinks, coffees and cocktails under thatched sunshades.

White sheets ensure privacy between sun loungers for people needing to get changed, or to just hide away from the world in their own space. It’s all rather magical.

A short kayak trip later and I was back at the water sports centre, safari over, to hand back my kayak.

With another hour left until lunch, I briefly considered a shower and change, but instead looked up and asked: “Are there any paddleboards free?”
