-

Actress Katie McGlynn is set to leave the cobbles for good after seven years in the role, but her traumatic exit storyline has been having a huge impact.

She has been contacted by nurses who tell her that the number of women going for smear tests has soared since the tragic plot unfolded. Sinead has been on a heartbreaking journey since being diagnosed with cervical cancer during pregnancy.

Katie, 25, posted one message she had received on Twitter: “Hi, I’m a nurse in general practice in East Manchester. I just wanted to

let you know the positive impact your storyline has on cervical cytology uptake. I’ve seen a huge increase in uptake in the last few weeks.

“Thank you so much for your positive impact through drama. Thanks Corrie. Thanks Katie for your superb acting of this harrowing cancer experience. You make a difference. x”

Katie says: “It’s messages like this that make it all worthwhile. Feel privileged to be a part of this storyline.”

NHS England says: “When a celebrity speaks out or a popular TV show highlights an issue around preventative health, it can make a big difference.” Simon Cowell hit his golden buzzer for Stavros Flatley on ITV’s

last night. Explaining the decision, Simon says: “It was insane when they came on the stage – it just brought back so many amazing memories. I watched their reaction and I heard the audience and I thought, ‘If I was at home, I think that’s the one I’d want as my Golden Buzzer’.”
