Festivals galore for foodie fans

- BY marjorie Yue

Summer officially ends today – after a late and welcome blast of sunshine – and it’s time to start reaping the rich harvest of autumn food festivals around the country.

Famous foodies such as MasterChef winner Thomasina Miers, writer

Jo Pratt and Michelin-star chef Galton Blackiston will be stepping on to the Tiptree stage at the Aldeburgh Food and Drink Festival in the beautiful setting of Snape Maltings.

They join over 100 of Suffolk’s top suppliers for a delicious weekend of tastings, culinary workshops and masterclasses. (September 28-29, aldeburghfoodanddrink.co.uk)

Lincoln’s Sausage Festival offers a sizzling day out as it marks the county’s iconic export. Visitors will sample 30,000 bangers in and around the grounds of the city’s magnificent castle. Local chef Rachel Green will give cooking demonstrations while butcher and baker Curtis of Lincoln reveals the art of sausage-making. There’s music and entertainment plus circus skills tuition in the Children’s Marquee. (October 12, visitlincoln.com)

Inspired by the climate change debate, Winchester’s Green Harvest Weekend will feature a Big Top marquee to host talks and displays on the topic of a more sustainable future. Bees are a focus – watch out for a giant one made from recycled products which will adorn the front of the cathedral. Visitors can buzz around the Hampshire Fare market, get close to farm animals and catch stunning falconry displays. (October 5-6, winchester-cathedral.org.uk)

The New Forest Food and Drink Fortnight will showcase local gastronomic goodies including Ringwood Brewery beer and Pannage Pork – produced from pigs fattened up on green acorns, a tradition dating back to the 11th century. (November 3-16, thenewforest.co.uk)
