WIN IT! BY GEORGE! WE’RE READY TO RUMBLE

- WE CAN GO FARR BY ALEX SPINK

JAMIE GEORGE says England are ready to explode into the Rugby World Cup after having to be “reined in” at their final training session.

Four years of preparation ends today when Eddie Jones’ side take on Tonga here in northern Japan.

Hooker George (above) insists they are ready and revealed that sparks flew as they got in the mood to face the monster-hitting Tongans.

“There was a bite to the way we trained, an edge to it, which is what you want,” said the Saracens star. “It was our time to have a physical session and there certainly was that edge to it.

“We had to be reined in rather than given a kick, which is always a good sign.

“The boys are itching to go, like kids at Christmas,” he added. “We have been looking forward to this for four years.

“It’s just about making sure we control the emotions, that we don’t get too far ahead of ourselves and focus on what we need to do.”

George already likes the feel of this campaign before a ball has even been kicked.

Four years ago he was part of the England team which suffered a humiliating pool exit – the first host nation ever to suffer such a fate.

Worse still for George, it came after he fell up the stairs at a Take That concert arranged as a gala send-off for England.

”So I’m already in a much better place mentally than that!” he said.

“Seriously, whenever I’ve been in England teams that are playing really well there’s a feeling. We felt it before beating Ireland away in the Six Nations and we are definitely feeling it now.”
