DYCHE PILES ON PRESSURE FOR VILLANS

-

wasteful, leaving them in the bottom three with one win.

“Disappointing and frustrating,” admitted Villa boss Dean Smith.

“We were the dominant force in the first half, the best we have been this season, and I don’t think anyone would have complained if we had been three or four up.

“But there’s no mental block about not winning these games, we just have to make sure we get a victory.”

The fans turned out with a fourth successive 40,000-plus home crowd, but rumblings of discontent are starting.

Villa played well and deserved to be ahead at half-time. They got a brief taste in the 25th minute when John McGinn put in Conor Hourihane’s squared pass – trouble was, VAR saw Hourihane was offside.

But Villa were back eight minutes later – and this time it stood, with McGinn getting some revenge on video officialdom with a pass to set full-back Frederic Guilbert running.

Guilbert aimed his cross from the right and Anwar El Ghazi‘s half-volley bypassed Burnley keeper Nick Pope into the far corner.

Prior to that Villa and Burnley swapped shots, hitting the woodwork – Hourihane finding the post with Pope beaten and Dwight McNeil’s free-kick hitting the bar.

There was no doubt which team was boss at the break. But it didn’t last. Again.

Dyche put on striker Jay Rodriguez and he equalised in the 68th minute.

By the 80th minute McGinn had Villa in front again, sidefooting home sub Trezeguet’s cross. But the Scot was in despair two minutes later when Chris Wood headed in Matthew Lowton’s cross to equalise.
