In future, wake me up before you robo

- BY nIGel THOmPsOn

As you wake up in your hotel bed, your glass TV knows what you want to watch... and that knock at the door is a robot bringing you breakfast.

As you ask the curtains to open, the weather looks grim, so you instruct the room’s walls to cheer things up by showing a sun-soaked beach in Bali.

Then as you shower, the water adapts to your body temperature, while glass walls in the bathroom change from transparent to opaque to offer privacy.

Could this be the way a hotel shapes up in the year 2034?

Hospitality technology firm Guestline has teamed up with a group of experts to look at what the properties of the future might offer.

And of course the experience will start when guests arrive at reception. Screens will welcome you by name when you approach them in the hotel lobby, picking up your data from your smartphone. Then an automatic check-in process uses facial recognition to digitally download your room key to your device.

Artificial Intelligence and voice control will also feature in the rooms. Need a drink? Just ask the built-in digital concierge.

The predictions also say phones will sync with in-room technology, allowing seamless FaceTiming, TV and streaming, with food ordered via dining apps. Plugs and sockets will probably go completely too, with the trend towards invisible technology.

Similarly, the room lighting, temperature and music levels would be taken care of by the AI.

Guestline said: “We already know this exists in some hotels – however, the technology is quite basic and we imagine that over the foreseeable future that control for the guests will become more personalised, such as sunrise/set lighting, and audio that can produce a selection of noises to help you sleep.”

And if you want to know the cost of future snacks and drinks, just have a look at today’s minibar prices!
