Liverpool and VVD are NOT invincible SAYS HARRY KANE

- By tom hoPkInson

HARRY KANE knows he will be in for a major battle against Virgil van Dijk this afternoon as Tottenham try to become the first team to beat Liverpool this season.

But the Spurs striker is adamant UEFA’s player of the year and his pals can be beaten.

And he wants Tottenham to exact some sort of revenge for the Champions League final defeat that the Reds inflicted upon them in June.

Kane insisted: “Van Dijk is a great defender, but he’s not invincible – and Liverpool are not invincible.

“We just have to concentrate on ourselves. Any team can be beaten on any day and we just have to try to make sure we do that at Anfield.

“As a striker, it’s not just one-v-one on the pitch, there’s a lot that goes into it. Van Dijk is an amazing defender and he has had a fantastic couple of years at Liverpool.

“So, from my point of view, it’s just about playing my game and making my movements, making my runs and trying to get on the scoresheet, trying to get assists.

“At the end of the day, it’s a team game, so we all have to be on it with each other and that’s the main aim.”

Tottenham never really got going in the European showdown with Liverpool in June and they have stuttered and spluttered their way through the first three months of this season.

Kane added: “We’ve had a little bit of a rivalry over the last couple of years because we’ve been competing at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League – and that’s what happens when you get two good teams at a high level.

“You want to win, you want to come out on top and they came out on top in May, or June, whenever it was… I’ve tried to forget it,” he said, with a rueful laugh.

“It’s the first time we’ll have played them since, but that’s in the past, we must concentrate on us now and we have a lot to do to turn our Premier League season around.”

Kane is hoping Tuesday’s 5-0 trouncing of Serbian side Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League can be a platform to help them do that.

He added: “Momentum-wise, that will give us a huge lift.

“Tuesday’s game was great, but we were expected to win it at home.

“Probably not many people will expect us to win away at Anfield, so, if we can do that, it will hopefully give our Premier League season a big boost.”

The game has the potenti al to be explosive, with two of the most entertaining attacking units in Europe 2-2 draw on show. Kane added: “They have a great attacking trio or four, but so have a lot of teams in the Premier League.

“When you look at the top six now, there are a lot of great attacking players.

“Like I said, it’s not just the attack that is going to win the game, it’s the defence, the whole team and that’s what we have to do, we have to stick together and try to get the win.

“Obviously, it will be a very tough game. They have started the season as well as anyone, especially their home form.

“They have a great crowd, who really get behind their team and try to push them on, so it’ll be a tough game.

“But we have have been there before, we’ve picked up results there before, so we just have to concentrate on us and do what we can – and try to perform like we did on Tuesday.”

?? ?? ROBERTO FIRMINO insists Liverpool are better than the side which finished runners-up last season – and can shape their title destiny in the next few weeks.
Having drawn at Old Trafford last weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s side face Tottenham at Anfield today before taking on champions Manchester City on November 10.
And Firmino said: “I think this team is stronger than last year.
“Winning the Champions League last season helped us because it showed our level – and this year I would say we have improved even more. I have very positive feelings about the season.”
As for the prospect of beating Spurs, he added: “It would show once again that we believe this is going to be our year in the Premier League.
“But we have to be careful. At the moment we are the leaders and we are playing well, but we haven’t won anything yet and just dropping two or three points can leave you missing out on the title.
“They are complicated matches we face. If we overcome Tottenham, then the way ahead will be even clearer for us. But what we learned last season, which I have already lived many times, is that in this league the last match of the campaign can still end up defining everything.
“My hope is that we can be Premier League champions a few days before that. It would be a total party in the city.
“It would be something unique – and even more than when we won the Champions League.” sPurfect Lamela, Son and Kane celebrate during their hammering of Red Star Belgrade
