Love rivals both crash in 100mph city car chase

- BY JOHN KELLY

TWO love rivals crashed after a terrifying bumper to bumper chase at speeds of up to 100mph along city streets, a court heard.

John Carey, 27, was spotted in his Vauxhall Astra VXR by Bradley Kitchen, who was angry after Carey slept with his lover.

Kitchen, 24, spun his Mini Cooper round and pursued him, before crashing and seriously hurting two passengers.

Carey then crashed too, York Crown Court heard. Both drivers escaped serious injury in the October 2017 drama in the city.

Carey, of Wetherby, earlier cleared of dangerous driving, admitted a false declaration and was conditionally discharged.

Kitchen, of York, admitted dangerous driving and was jailed for nine months and banned from driving for 16 months.

After the case, Sgt Mark Patterson, from North Yorkshire Police, said: “It’s a miracle no one lost their life.”

QAQAI have a boxed Sindy kitchen set and the bathroom set from the late 1970s. Both are in good condition and I’d appreciate knowing an approximate value, if any. Alice Ruben, Oxford Pedigree launched the Sindy doll in 1963. Most collectors today seek boxed items, ideally in perfect condition. But your playsets aren’t quite the stuff of toy auctions I am afraid – well not yet anyway. Barbie, Sindy’s American rival, has a global collecting and fan base and many very early pieces including the first dolls can fetch hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds today. I saw your Q&A about whisky previously. I have two bottles of Dimple whisky, probably 50 years old if not more. Just wondering if they are worth anything? Steve Warwick, via email We have seen a few great whisky-related reader items these last few months. Dimple was produced originally by John Haig & Co Ltd. Now the firm is part of Diageo which has become the largest spirits business in the world. Your bottles are 70 proof, also known as 40 per cent alcohol. This is rare whisky, though not worth the thousands of pounds we discovered with a reader a few weeks ago. From the pictures you sent, the first with it’s packaging should fetch £100-£150. Your second, unboxed bottle is slightly less desirable and will cost around £60-£80 to replace today.
