PARENTS QUIT 9-5

-

ROSIE Beeson and her joyful clan throw their arms wide astride camels in Morocco... after getting the hump with their humdrum life back home.

The former HR specialist persuaded hubby Dan to up sticks and hit the road in a 23ft campervan for the trip of a lifetime with kids Monty, eight, and Winter, five.

They bought the £21,000 Hymer 2.8 diesel just 24 hours after selling their terrace home – and were on their way through Europe and on to Africa barely a week or so later.

RELAXED

Now, after their “most relaxed Christmas ever”, Rosie and co are geared up for the next leg of their journey – with no regrets whatsoever. Winter sums it up neatly, saying: “I just love it! Our house has wheels and we can go anywhere in the whole wide world.

“I love seeing new things in all of the new countries, learning the languages and making new friends everywhere.”

And brother Monty says: “I like going on walks with Daddy, and when we all go on bike rides. I’ve met new friends from all over and I get to see the sea and beach so much.”

The family paid for the trip by making £90,000 from selling their home in Ilkeston, Derbys.

Rosie says: “People have said they wish they could afford to do what we’ve done, but we aren’t rich. We just decided to live differently and not worry about material things.

“This has been amazing for our family. The children have seen incredible places and met people from all over the world.

It’s really opened our eyes to what’s important in life.”

So far the Beesons have made two trips to Europe – travelling through France, Spain and Portugal.

After a brief return for a family wedding they drove to Wales and through Ireland before heading back to the continent. They also visited Gibraltar before sailing to Morocco – where they are now.

Rosie says the strain of home schooling her children and constantly juggling work commitments triggered thoughts of travel.

She spotted a Facebook page about parents home teaching their kids while travelling the world. And

after research, she tackled Dan, 48, who worked long hours as a production manager.

Rosie says: “We realised we didn’t want that 9 to 5 life, with no energy for family time and no money for holidays. We sat down one evening and I said to Dan, ‘What do you think about selling everything to travel the world?’ His eyes widened. I believe he thought I was joking, but I’d been researching and had answers for all his questions.

“It was a huge decision that we wouldn’t make overnight, so we both went away to think. Dan looked up everything there was to know about motorhomes and a week later, we sat down and he told me, ‘Let’s do it.’ Not a single person said we were insane. Everyone thinks it’s amazing.”

Rosie used to work in HR with the Army but quit to concentrate on her family. She did bar work and began home educating Monty after he was diagnosed with autism.

After hatching the travel plan, the family began shedding possessions
