REDS ARE STILL PLOTTING A KOU

- BY HARRY PRATT

MANCHESTER UNITED remain hell-bent on bringing Napoli centre-half Kalidou Koulibaly to Old Trafford.

The 6ft 1in, 28-year-old is viewed as the perfect partner for Reds skipper Harry Maguire at the back.

United have spent the last 12 months in a fruitless chase for Koulibaly (right), who will cost around £90million. They still regard him as their defensive priority and plan to step up efforts to secure his services as soon as the summer window opens.

Koulibaly is aware of their interest and is open to the idea of a switch to England.

However, United are not alone in their pursuit with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain also in the hunt.

FOOTBALL could pay a heavy price if the coronavirus gains a foothold in the UK.

The Chinese Super League season has been postponed as the number of people infected by the disease continues to soar.

The World Indoor Athletics Championships in Nanjing has also been pushed back 12 months.

Experts believe a widespread outbreak here could bring similar chaos to the sporting schedule.

Alex Bowmer, a research fellow at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said: “What a virus loves more than anything else is a denselypopulated area of hosts.

“Imagine a football stadium with 60 or 70,000 packed in, that’s perfect.

“Essentially, anything that involves densely-populated crowds – you would have to postpone these events until the virus was under control.”
