Egyptian scores record 70th in tide of goals
TO become a history-making team, you require legendary players.
Take a bow, Mo Salah.
Liverpool will become recordbreaking champions because he, along with Sadio Mane and Virgil van Dijk, has entered the pantheon of Anfield greats this season.
The Egyptian in fact, has eclipsed all those illustrious strikers who came before him.
His goal here on 25 minutes, which turned this game and his side’s recent surprising slump in form, was a case in point.
A touch of true class to transform what was actually a poor pass from Mane, a rare vision to deceive the keeper and find the net.
It gave the Reds confidence and momentum as it levelled what was a controversial opening goal for Bournemouth.
Yet it was far more than that. It was Salah’s 70th
Premier League goal in just
100 games for Liverpool, meaning he has recorded the highest total of top-flight goals in the club’s history after a century of appearances.
More than Roger Hunt, John
Toshack, Kevin Keegan, Kenny Dalglish, Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler, Michael Owen, Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez.
And, in doing so, he has put Jurgen Klopp’s ( far left) side on the verge of history.
There is no reason to believe this incredible run won’t continue.
Salah became the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals for the club in three consecutive seasons since Owen. And, just for good measure, his goal meant he surpassed Suarez as the club’s all-time record overseas goalscorer in the league.
