We’re with heroes on front line

-

YOUR award-winning campaigning Sunday Mirror has once again set the agenda this week in exposing the frontline battle our doctors, nurses and carers are facing in the fight against coronavirus.

Today we expose their fears about supplies of life-saving oxygen running out as, once again, medics turn to the paper they trust to reveal what is really going on in our NHS hospitals.

Three weeks ago we revealed the chronic lack of personal protection equipment that was putting medics and carers at risk of dying, setting the news agenda for the coming days and weeks.

The concerns first raised here were picked up by other national newspapers and TV news and the desperate situation remains unresolved.

Meanwhile a week later we revealed how Tory toff Jacob Rees-Mogg’s firm stands to make a fortune out of the turmoil caused by the coronavirus crisis. The wealthy MP owns at least 15 per cent of a company investing in businesses hit by falling share values.

Somerset Capital Management says investors have a “once in a generation” chance of “super normal returns” as many ordinary Britons face financial hardship and ruin.

Mr Rees-Mogg, 50, stood down as a director of SCM so he could become Leader of the Commons last July. But he owns at least 15 per cent, meaning he was entitled to a reported £1million share of last year’s £19.5million profits. Labour described it as “sick” and our investigation earned us a clap from the public.

Last Sunday we were back leading the news agenda again when experts told us of supply difficulties.

In an exclusive investigation we revealed how hospitals are running out of three vital drugs which help the sickest coronavirus patients.

Three experts told the Sunday Mirror of supply issues with a sedative given to those on ventilation aid including reserves of painkiller fentanyl and circulation-boosting drug noradrenaline.

From consultants to junior doctors, nurses to carers, those on the frontline battling this terrible disease trust the Sunday Mirror to support them – and to fearlessly tell our readers the truth about the horrors they are facing.
