Getting a run for my money

-

Another week of locked-down social distancing is over. If you are like me, at first it took some getting used to and there was and still is understandably sadness around the reasons why.

I can’t imagine what the past seven weeks have been like for some but, as one of the (currently) lucky ones, it would have been a wasted opportunity just sitting at home watching telly.

While I already had an OK level of fitness, I wanted to get stronger as a runner. I have known for years that to walk or run long distances well, training needs to include more than just walking or running.

Working on your core strength is essential.

The current situation gave me the push I needed to engage a good-value coach online to give me a bespoke training plan.

I approached a running friend of mine,

Hayley White. Hayley is not only an ultrarunning goddess, she has also spent a lifetime helping to rehabilitate people after all kinds of injuries or operations as a medical exercise specialist and personal trainer.

She devised a challenging but achievable training plan that I could do in my home with minimal equipment. Four weeks into the programme, I am really feeling the difference.

I would never have started this journey without being locked down, but now it has become a habit I am sure I will carry on for a long time to come.

You can follow Hayley on her Instagram – hayley.fitfamily.01, or on Facebook at 1fitmama.

As I have discovered, we can use this unwelcome downtime as a force for good. I hope you can find a way to be a better you too.

Until next week,

Kev

I hope that, like me, you too can use this unwelcome downtime as a force for good
