DAVID BENTLEY hopes to become a big player again — but this time in Britain’s bid to get back to work after the coronavirus crisis.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is due to announce plans to start easing lockdown measures this evening and, in the coming days, weeks and months, the nation will gradually return to the workplace.

There will be plenty of hurdles for companies to overcome as they go back up through the gears.

But former Blackburn, Tottenham and England winger Bentley, 35, is proving just as creative in business as he was on the football field.

SRC Systems Plus — one of his multiple business interests — reckon their range of partition systems and desk screens will help to give confidence to employees returning to offices across the nation.

Bentley (above) who retired from playing at 29, said: “I loved every minute of football — I was a young man living my dream and everything I have is because of the platform it gave me.

“Once I was out of the game, I had an interest in a football agency and then I branched out.

“I love the freedom. I have four children, I can see them when I want, my daily routine is my problem, not someone else’s. You get to meet a variety of people and the business element is about creating new ideas.

“I love it — we have a good time doing it and it really is stimulating. I own businesses that are being affected and we have staff who don’t know how their futures stand. And while the Government will have budgeted for a period, every company needs to get guys back to work.

“So the screens and partitions we’ve designed are about doing that.

“The idea extends from when you go into a supermarket and see the glass partitions at the checkouts.

“We looked at that and thought, ‘Can we incorporate that into an office space and come up with something that helps get businesses back to work?’

“We can’t Zoom forever. It’s going to help people not get infected and help them have the confidence to go back to their workplaces.”
