Councils fear massive cuts in £7bn crisis
COUNCILS fear making huge cuts in services or facing bankruptcy because of a £6.9billion black hole.
Bin collections, social services, youth activities and libraries would suffer.
Revenue from local taxes and charges has plunged in the pandemic.
The Local Government Association is leading pleas for emergency aid.
Labour MP Meg Hillier, head of the Commons public accounts committee, fears “huge cuts to public services”.
The Government said the next spending review “will determine what support councils need”.
