Body can fool mums-to-be

- BY DR PAT O’BRIEN CONSULTANT OBSTETRICIAN

THERE are a number of reasons why women may not experience or notice pregnancy symptoms.

Many don’t suffer from sickness and others might not recognise that they have put on weight or feel the baby moving.

Some women may continue to experience light bleeding during pregnancy – and think they are having a period, as seems to be the case with Charlotte.

It is also possible for women simply to be unaware of their pregnancy, but it is still fairly rare.

The most reliable way to determine whether you are pregnant is by taking a test.

A positive result is almost always correct, but a negative result is less reliable as it may be still be too early in pregnancy to turn positive.

If you still think you may be pregnant after a negative test result, it is best to wait a week and try the test again.
