Amputee war hero’s charity 72-mile trek

-

WAR veteran and double amputee Duncan Slater set off on a 72-mile walking challenge yesterday.

Duncan, who uses prosthetic legs after a roadside blast in Afghanistan in 2009, plans to walk from Diss to Norwich to raise funds for cancer charities.

He had feared he’d never walk again but has since completed gruelling challenges all around the world including the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara Desert. He also became the first double amputee to ski to the South Pole.

Duncan, from Norfolk, will walk with local Rotary Club president Phil Catchpole. So far they have raised more than £2,500.
