Widow ‘fight on’ vow

-

BRAVE Sammi Ferguson has vowed not to “sit on the sidelines” and stay silent on the welfare failures which led to her husband Jamie’s suicide.

Sammi said the Army was planning an inquiry but it would be behind closed doors.

She said: “The MoD is very good at brushing you aside and the Army is policing itself.

“What is the MoD so afraid of that I couldn’t take part in the inquiry? It does not want difficult questions.” Sammi, who has been deeply touched by messages of sympathy, said she suspected the MoD did not collate figures on suicides because it was in denial on the scale of the issue.

Jamie served in Iraq and Afghanistan and developed a stress condition after being unable to save a soldier trampled by an elephant on a mission in Africa.
