Flooding and landslides in Japan kill 15

AT least 15 people were killed by record rainstorms in Japan yesterday – 14 of them residents found in a flooded care home.

A body was also pulled from a landslide that left two other victims “critical”.

As many as 13 people are missing as up to four inches of rain in an hour on Friday night devastated the southern island of Kyushu.

Mud-slides swept away houses and a bridge, while neighbourh­oods were submerged under floodwater.

Tens of thousands were instructed to evacuate, with 10,000 troops ready to aid overwhelme­d rescuers.

The city of Kagoshima’s governor ordered coronaviru­s social distancing and mask-wearing by evacuees.
