BALDOCK: BOSS MUST STAY BLADE AT HEART

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

GEORGE BALDOCK is hoping that Chris Wilder allows his heart to rule his head when suitors come calling for the Sheffield United boss.

A post-lockdown lull put a dent in the Blades’ hopes of qualifying for Europe – before an emphatic 3-1 victory over Tottenham in midweek.

That win once again emphasised what a fine job Wilder is doing at Bramall

Lane after guiding his hometown club to the Premier League.

And United’s top-flight exploits are sure to put Wilder in the frame for every job available over the coming months.

But full-back Baldock

(right) said: “From a selfish point of view, I hope the gaffer can achieve what he wants here. Obviously he’s very ambitious but if you ask anyone if they could manage their hometown club in the Premier League and take them far as they can, they’d want to do it.

“He’s not changed one bit. He’s been exactly the same since I have been here.

“He is so intense on the training ground, you train as if you’re playing a full game, and that’s key to us. If you come off it in training he comes down on you like a ton of bricks, knowing we have to do better or we will roll into the weekend and won’t be at it.”

Baldock has been on the end of a few Wilder tongue-lashings. He added: “Yes, I have been on the receiving end, but you take it on the chin, it’s not personal.

“If he says ‘well played today’, you know you’ve had an absolute worldie.”
