NEW CAB APPEALS TO REDS

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

MANCHESTER UNITED are looking at raiding Sporting Lisbon again.

The Reds have already found stars Bruno Fernandes, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo there. Now they are eyeing up winger Jovane Cabral.

The 22-year-old (below) has been one of the surprise revelations of the Portuguese League since the restart. Cabral has played 17 games this season, scoring five goals and providing five assists, and helped Sporting move up to third in the table. United’s strong links with the club also include signing Diogo Dalot, Bebe and Joel Pereira.

They have the advantage as well that Fernandes knows Cabral, having played alongside him from 2018 until his January move to United for £47m.

The winger, who is on the verge of a Portugal senior squad cap, is close to agreeing a contract extension until 2025. That would up his release clause from £36m to £90m. United believe they can do a player plus cash deal.

AIDEN McGEADY’S future will be thrashed out in crunch talks with Sunderland manager Phil Parkinson later this month.

The ex-Republic of Ireland winger, (below) 34, is on loan at struggling Charlton and tipped to leave the Stadium of Light with a year left on his contract.

Parkinson and McGeady fell out at the start of the year, and the boss said: “Once Charlton’s season is finished, we’ll have a chat with Aiden.”

He has also told misfit striker Will Grigg to stop commuting after moving from Wigan 18 months ago.
