A SUSPECTED burglar equipped with tools for the job nearly lost the one he valued most when a police dog bit him in a sensitive area.

The man was detained by police but then did a runner and was caught by police dog Resi, who latched onto his prized possessions.

The man received medical attention before being arrested on suspicion of burglary and going equipped to steal. West Yorkshire Police said the incident happened earlier this month in Leeds.

A BBC DJ who moved listeners with her Black Lives Matter speech could be the next star of Strictly Come Dancing.

Clara Amfo’s impassioned reaction to George Floyd’s death on Radio 1 was praised nationwide and went viral online.

She quoted a line from black actress and poet Amanda Seales, who said: “You cannot enjoy the rhythm but ignore the blues.”

And now Strictly bosses want Clara’s feet to do the talking on the new series of the show, which is due to return at the end of September.

Clara, 36, who hosts Radio 1’s mid-morning show, loves strutting her stuff.

The keen runner and fitness enthusiast has previously said: “I love to rave. I love to dance. Notting Hill Carnival is one of my favourite days of the year.”

A Strictly source said: “Clara is a familiar BBC face and producers want her. The show wants to cast a diverse range of talent.”

Clara is also said to have impressed bosses by co-hosting BBC One’s coverage of the One World: At Home Together web concert in April, which celebrated the work of NHS staff.

The source said she has not yet committed to Strictly – but if she does, she could light up the series. Clara makes sure she works out before getting to the BBC studio at 9am for her weekday show, and regularly takes part in running competitions.

She has said: “Within reason, I eat what I want. And I usually do a run every Thursday.”

Clara would not be the first Radio 1 DJ to take part in Strictly – Dev Griffin appeared in 2019 and Scott Mills also took to the floor in 2014.

Clara’s BLM speech shortly after George Floyd’s death reached an audience well beyond her radio show.

She told listeners: “I didn’t have the mental strength to face you guys yesterday. I was sat on my sofa, crying, angry, confused, stuck at the news of yet another brutalised black body.”

She said the killing had reinforced a feeling “that people want our culture, but they do not want us”. had run off. Regrettably the male sustained an injury to an organ most men would describe as vital.

“He received immediate medical care and was arrested for burglary and going equipped to steal.”
