Fine Tayl for Forest

- By JANINE SELF at the City Ground

LYLE TAYLOR looks like he is enjoying himself and Nottingham Forest are reaping the benefits.

Aged 30 and with a long list of previous employers, the journeyman striker seems perfectly at home on centre stage at the City Ground.

Taylor (above), ex-AFC Wimbledon, Falkirk and a few more besides, was a free arrival from Charlton last summer.

A double yesterday made it four goals in 11 appearances and earned praise from Forest manager Chris Hughton, who said: “We all know what Lyle can do.

“His second was crucial because we were up against it and they were pressing hard. The first goal was a fantastic cross but the second all his.” Wycombe’s start to the season was nothing short of disastrous.

Seven successive losses and a draw suggested a quick return to League One and then something clicked, so much so that they arrived at the City Ground looking for a third win in a row. There was an air of confidence about them too.

But it was a similarly resurgent

Forest who struck the first blow.

Taylor spotted Cyrus Christie teeing up a cross and timed his run to perfection, his header giving Ryan Allsop no chance on 28 minutes.

Wycombe were inches from an equaliser when Adebayo Akinfenwa’s header bounced wide. Then Taylor struck again, running on to Anthony Knockaert’s pass, keeping going and a low effort beat Allsop on 74 minutes.

Wycombe assistant manager Richard Dobson said: “It’s a big learning curve.” NOTTINGHAM FOREST: Samba 7; Christie 7, Figueiredo 7, McKenna 7, Ribeiro 7; Knockaert 7, Colback 7, Sow 6 (Yates 46,6), Ameobi 6 (Lolley 68, 5); Guerrero 8 (Arter 75, 5); Taylor 8.
