Kenny reckons pal Lookman will put penalty howler behind him

- By SIMONSIMO MULLOCK @MullockSMirror@Mullo JONJ Lookm Panen

JONJOE KENNY wasn’t surprised to see Ademola Lookman try to score with a Panenka penalty the other week.

In fact the t Everton defender ( (left) left might warn keeper Jordan Pickford to expect the unexpected une if the Fulham forwa forward is given the chance to redee redeem himself for his embarrassing embarra lastminute miss against West Ham when the Merseysiders travel to Cra Craven Cottage to today.

Kenny, 23, set to be handed a starting place in the absence of injured Seamus Coleman ( right), knows what makes Lookman tick.

The pair came through the Goodison youth system together and were part of the England team that won the Under-20 World Cup three years ago.

Kenny said: “If that penalty against West Ham goes in, then Ademola is the best player in the world.

“Unfortunately for him, it didn’t – but he won’t be worried about what people say. He’s got the confidence to try to do it again.

“As a player, I really love Ademola, I think he’s brilliant. It’s good to see him getting more game time at Fulham. He fully deserves it for the kind of player he is.

“We don’t have too much contact these days, but it’s always great when we see each other.

“Being in the team that won the

World Cup a few years ago was a big thing for both of us. Ademola was a star of that team and the memories we made will last a long time.”

Like Lookman, Liverpoolborn Kenny moved to the Bundesliga last season to further his career.

But, while the Fulham winger left Everton in a permanent deal to join RB Leipzig, the loan spell that took Kenny to Schalke last season was always designed with a route back to Everton in mind.

The presence of C o l eman – Everton’s skipper and a club legend – is something that Kenny isn’t daunted by.

But he knows this is a huge opportunity to impress Carlo Ancelotti as Everton look to get back to winning ways after three successive defeats against a team struggling on their return to the top flight. Kenny said: “I went to Germany to prove to everyone – including myself – that I could go and do it.

“I loved every moment of being a main part of the team, playing week in and week out, and having that buzz.

“Now I have got to make sure that I can be the best Jonjoe Kenny that I can for Everton.

“Seamus deserves his status at the club for what he’s done here – he’s been one of Everton’s best players over the last 10 years and you’ve got to respect that.

“I don’t look at Seamus as someone I’m fighting against because we have such a good relationship.”
