Bees need to Tone it down

- By IAN BAKER at Adams Park

IVAN TONEY summed up Brentford’s frustration as he was booked for lashing out at the end of this second consecutive shut-out.

Last year’s beaten play-off finalists appear to have lost their mojo as they struggled for ideas at struggling Wycombe. And 10-goal Toney, who found the net for fun earlier this campaign, was kept quiet all afternoon before his altercation with Josh Knight.

Bees boss Thomas Frank said: “I don’t know exactly what happened, but Ivan and the Wycombe guy had some pushing. It was nothing major.

“We all want to win, we were favourites to win, and that can build up. We did not hit the highest rhythm and we need to keep a cool head.

“But are we feeling the pressure? The short answer is no. We’re very confident we can get to a good place.”

Brentford are now 11th and already five points off the top six though.

They could have gone behind within the opening minutes as Curtis Thompson’s fluke goalbound cross was tipped onto the bar by David Raya.

However, the Bees should have scored when Bryan Mbeumo’s effort was brilliantly pushed onto the post by Ryan Allsop.

Wycombe could have even snatched all three points late on when Daryl Horgan’s drive from the edge of the area was pushed behind by Raya.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth said: “I’m just so proud of the lads. My boys run through brick walls for me.

“If we do survive it will be because everyone is together.”
