POCH CALL CAN END ALLI’S HELL

- BY JOHN RICHARDSON

Dele Alli will be hoping to hear a familiar voice on the end of the phone, inviting the england player to end his Tottenham nightmare.

While his current spurs boss Jose Mourinho has cast the attacking midfielder into the shadows, the appointment of former manager Mauricio Pochettino at Paris saintGermain could see Alli shine once again.

Pochettino is a confirmed admirer of the player and is expected to ask for him on loan for the rest of the season.

it’s a mystery to many observers why Alli sometimes can’t even earn a place in Mourinho’s squad on match days.

After all, it was none other than sir Alex Ferguson who offered Mourinho just one piece of advice when the Portuguese was in charge of Manchester united – sign Dele Alli.

Old Trafford’s legendary boss had already described the then MK Dons player as the best young midfielder he had seen since Paul Gascoigne.

The manager who helped nurture those skills with the Dons, Karl Robinson, has insisted that the midfielder who joined spurs instead of united “is a tremendous young man”.

Pochettino (above) who then ensured the passage into the Premier league was a smooth one for Alli, added: “He was an amazing player for us.”

Past and current teammates are also effusive in their praise but, as everyone witnessed at stoke recently, Mourinho doesn’t share that common view.

Once again the 24-year-old england player was left humiliated by Mourinho, who hauled him off following a rare start this season shortly after the home side equalised in the carabao cup quarter-final.

The spurs boss didn’t hold back on his reasons for cutting short Alli’s night, admitting that he had been angered by the player losing possession and allowing stoke to capitalise.

Alli spent the rest of the game looking disconsolate, isolated in the stand, as spurs went on to book their place in the semi-finals of the competition.

Paris saint-Germain, who have already shown their hand making three attempts to take him on loan during the last window, won’t have it all their own way trying to entice the player away from north london, as everton and Newcastle are also interested.

Former Tottenham star Peter crouch maintained: “There is no future for him with Jose Mourinho in charge. it’s time for him to go.”

Alli has also lost his england squad place through a lack of competitive action and has been barely used in the Premier league this season... just 75 minutes of activity from one start and three fleeting substitute appearances.

Mourinho has often questioned his work ethic in training and since Pochettino left Alli appears lost, especially under a manager who clearly doesn’t trust him and won’t attempt to understand his psyche.
