‘This virus has Scott me angry’
SCOTT PARKER admits Fulham’s back-to-back fixture postponements have left him frustrated after his side finally started to give themselves a platform to build on.
The Cottagers were due to take on Burnley today, but the coronavirus outbreak in Parker’s squad, which led to the postponement of
Tuesday’s game with Tottenham, has not subsided sufficiently.
Parker knows there is a bigger picture to it all, of course.
But it is still a pain for the former England midfielder that his side cannot try to add to the four points they took against Liverpool, Brighton, Newcastle and Southampton during December.
He said: “It’s disappointing and it was disappointing for the Tottenham game as well.
“We were in a really good place, I felt Spurs was a game for us, it was a good moment, and even now as well.
“But, at the same time, there has been an issue here.
“So football-wise, we want to play the game, but the flip-side of that is there’s a situation, a pandemic, and that needs to be at the forefront and the main focus.
“We need to take extra precautions and need to make sure that players’ welfare and the safety of everyone connected to us as a travelling party is safe.
“And if that’s the case then, perfect, let’s play. If not, then obviously decisions will be made.”
Parker is fast approaching his two-year anniversary in charge of Fulham, having replaced Claudio Ranieri on February 28, 2019.
But he has had to deal with so much since then — relegation, promotion and the whole situation with the pandemic.
He added: “It has been a tough two years, but it has been very successful at the same time.”
