Eddie steadies the Bhoys ship
THIS WEEK’S FIXTURES
Scottish Round-Up
ODSONNE EDOUARD was again in the goals as
CELTIC dug in to beat MOTHERWELL 2-1 for another much-needed win.
Celtic remain 20 points behind runaway Premiership leaders Rangers, who visit Hamilton today.
But Neil Lennon’s men did their bit to win yesterday, and the Bhoys manager insisted: “We were superb for long periods and 2-0 didn’t flatter us – we deserved to be more in front.
“Then Motherwell got a bit of luck with their goal and the psychology of the game changes.
“We got a bit anxious towards the end, but thoroughly deserved the win. We had to rely on
Diego Laxalt for a great clearance at the end, but an equaliser would have been a great injustice.”
Stephen Welsh scored his first goal for the hosts with an early header and Odsonne Edouard drilled home his third goal in two games for a crucial second.
Allan Campbell replied for ninth-placed Well.
But Graham Alexander’s men were left to ponder what might have been after missing late chances.
Devante Cole and Jordan Roberts threatened before Harry Smith thought he’d earned a share of the spoils. Smith met a looping cross, headed towards the far post, and Laxalt had to clear off the goal-line with almost the last kick of the game.
Elsewhere, Martin Boyle’s double sunk ABERDEEN
2-0 to strengthen HIBERNIAN’s grip on third place.
Boyle converted a firsthalf penalty before nipping behind the Dons defence after the break for another.
ST JOHNSTONE ended LIVINGSTON’s 14-match unbeaten run under David Martindale by earning a 2-1 win.
The two sides will meet again in this month’s League Cup final.
