Rosamund Pike is very good at being bad. After her devilish turn in Gone Girl, she’s back with a Golden Globe-nominated performance in a black comedy from writer-director J Blakeson.

She plays self-styled

“lioness” Marla Grayson, a psychopath, con artist and highly successful businesswoman. In this dark vision of modern America, these three attributes fit very snugly together.

As the founder and CEO of Grayson Guardianships, Marla seeks out elderly people with no family and big bank accounts. After bribing a doctor to

diagnose them with dementia, she then petitions a judge to make her their ‘ward’ so she can take control of their finances, lock them in a care home and bleed them dry.

Then she targets the wrong person. Effectively kidnapping Jennifer Peterson (Dianne Wiest) attracts the attention of Roman Lunyov (Peter Dinklage), a shadowy crime lord with a stake in her wealth.

Making a film with no one to root for is always a risky move. And this time, the gamble doesn’t quite pay off.

As black comedy was moved aside for a tense game of cat and mouse between two vile criminals, I found I didn’t care nearly enough.

“Studies have shown the positive effect of physical activity on energy levels, making it one of the best ways to deal with tiredness,” says registered nutritionist Elizabeth Stewart for supplements provider Vitl (vitl.com).

“Whether it’s 10 minutes of yoga in your bedroom or a walk around the block, moving is also so important for mental health as well as physical, especially during lockdown.”

Diet can also help energy levels. “It’s important to get enough fresh and wholefoods, rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as protein, carbs and healthy fats. Carb-rich foods such as potatoes, wholemeal bread and rice, and protein can sustain energy levels and help you feel fuller for longer.

And eat foods that promote healthy gut health, such as chicory, to avoid bowel syndromes, such as IBS, which can impact energy levels.

“Iron-rich foods are also helpful for fighting fatigue. Leafy greens, fortified cereals, beans and red meat are good sources of iron.”

If you’re unusually tired and nothing is helping, talk to your GP.
