Dodds: Axe triple hit on families

- BY NIGEL NELSON

SHADOW Chancellor Anneliese Dodds wants Rishi Sunak to end his “triple hammer blow” on families.

She says Wednesday’s Budget must scrap 5% council tax rises, halt the public sector pay freeze and keep the £20 weekly uplift in Universal Credit. She says: “He must protect family finances to give people confidence to spend and needs to do more to create new jobs for the future.”

Ms Dodds would extend furlough for six months if she were in the hot seat. She adds: “We need a progressive tax system but now is not the time. It’s important to focus on jobs and growth. If he raises taxes now it will only be to cut them again before the election.”

THOUSANDS have signed an online book of condolence paying tribute to Sir Tom, set up by The Captain Tom Foundation – see captaintom.org.
