Crouch: Pampered players get aides to sort problems

With The Yorkshire Vet Peter Wright

- BY STIAN ALEXANDER

FOOTIE favourite Peter Crouch has revealed how player liaison officers “do anything” for pampered modern soccer stars – even dumping girlfriends.

The 40-year-old former Spurs and Liverpool ace said on his podcast there were loads of “stupid things” that “only a footballer” would ask for help with.

One complained his goldfish was “swimming the wrong way STRANGE LIAISONS round” while another sat indoors wearing a coat for two months after his heating broke down. Others have asked for help opening post and even getting rid of “clingy” girlfriends.

Dad-of-four Crouchy said: “Everything is geared up so you play well on a Saturday. If there are any distractions or problems, clubs will try and take those problems away. If anything off the pitch is difficult for you, ie splitting up with a girlfriend, that

comes into the category.”

QVet Peter Wright works at Skeldale Veterinary Centre, the original James Herriot practice in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, and he appears in This Week on The Farm on Thursdays at 8pm on Channel 5. I recently rescued a six-month-old Great Dane. A pal has warned me about a condition called bloat they can suffer from. What is it? A Bloat or gastric dilatation is a lifethreatening condition, most common in large, deep-chested breeds. The stomach fills with gas and can lead to an extremely painful blockage requiring rapid surgery. Contributing factors are gulping food, followed immediately by exercise. Watch out for swelling, drooling, straining to be sick or gagging and restlessness. If in any doubt see a vet promptly.

says she ended up as an actor because she was a “bit mad”. Back on screen with ITV hit Unforgotten, she admits: “When I was young there weren’t that many opportunities for women.

“You either were a teacher or a secretary or a nurse. And if you were a bit mad, or if your sister happened to be on the stage, then you probably went on the stage – and that seemed the best option for me.”
