It’s gone on for too long

WOMEN marched to reclaim the night 44 years ago when the Yorkshire Ripper evaded police – and today we are still not safe.

Sarah Everard’s death triggered an outpouring by women sharing stories of violence and fear.

Though Met Police chief Cressida Dick tried to reassure us it’s rare to be abducted in the street, we know it’s not rare to be followed, flashed, groped, or to have obscenities shouted at us by men.

A 2018 Parliament report set out how to stop public harassment – the Government should make this a priority. Women need to know reports of harassment and violence will be taken seriously.

We’re likely to need new laws to prosecute public harassment, and action by police and politicians to ensure existing crimes – indecent exposure, assault, rape – are prosecuted.

We need to see action from those in power.

PIERS Morgan is at the centre of a £10million TV bidding war after his sensational ITV walkout last week.

The presenter, 55 – who was on an estimated £3million a year – is being wooed by Rupert Murdoch for his upcoming News UK TV and US network Fox News.

Simon Cowell has also been in regular touch, while GB News founder Andrew Neil reckons he would be a ratings winner when the channel launches this year.

Insiders say Piers, who quit Good

Morning Britain this week after blasting Meghan Markle’s Oprah interview, is very keen on a return to the US, where he previously fronted his own show on CNN.

A TV source said: “Piers is the king of controversy and his departure from GMB is by no means the end of the road”

GMB became a ratings hit with Piers and Susanna Reid at the helm.

But viewing figures have plunged by 500,000 since he stormed out.

A petition demanding his return had 227,000 signatures as of last night.
