Pinocchio turns hairy in this barking fable about a hirsute runaway schoolboy. Paul (Jaeden Martell) has congenital hypertrichosis, a condition that has left him with thick hair covering his face and body.
After being mercilessly bullied, he runs away from his home in upstate New York to find his estranged mother (Chloe Sevigny) in Pittsburgh.
An eventful stint as a freak show star ends with him being pursued by John Turturro’s dastardly carnival impresario before he finds a kindred spirit in Aristiana (Sophie Giannamore), a transgender girl who performs an aquatic-themed cabaret act in a local bar. They make a very sweet couple but this strange, almost dream-like film, is never schmaltzy. Whenever it heads in that direction, Wolfboy shows some bite.
The warmer weather can bring with it high pollen counts and hayfever symptoms for some.
