LIVE Choosing alternative therapy to rebalance

- Running with terminal cancer By Kevin Webber Until next week Kev justgiving.com/fundraising/kevin-webber8

I was delighted to have a more restful week after the massive 386-mile race the week before, although running 5k or so a day definitely hurts more than it should. But I am proud, none the less, that as of today I’ve managed 455 consecutive days running.

One of the necessary evils of having cancer and running long distances is that they collectively come with a plethora of medical appointments to keep the wheels on and not coming to a final stop.

The week started with my usual blood test to screen my “PSA” prostate cancer marker. I am so used to these tests having had over 50 in the last six years that most nurses in the blood room know me by name and seem to enjoy asking about my latest exploits. I actually look forward to them and try to leave those I meet feeling more positive about the world. From the blood room I go to have my regular acupuncture. I hope that this ancient art helps keep my cancer at bay, reduces my night sweats and helps my sports injuries.

Next up was a trip to another alternative medicine expert to have Resilo, which uses the lost art of reflex therapy treatment. Since going I have to say that my body feels reset and less stressed despite the recent crazy mileage, and I am a firm believer that less stress helps my body cope.

Then the call I dread each month, the results of the blood test. While these have been stable for some time now, it does not stop me worrying on the day I get them – I know one day these will go wrong which will spell the beginning of my end. Luckily after the call I can say to myself “And breathe!”

Finally as if that was not enough, being over 56 I was delighted to have my first Covid jab. Although I have incurable cancer, my particular type is not one that needed me pushed up the list. The process was so smooth and safe, it really was painless, and all those involved were professional and friendly.

I do hope that you too listen to your body and seek appropriate medical help as soon as you think something has changed without explanation, and of course, take the advice to have your Covid jab and other inoculations when advised.
