Kick off a new year with a challenge

- Until next week, Kev

Now I know it’s still November and we have not even got Christmas out of the way, but for me it’s never too early to plan for next year as it adds to the fun. It gives me time to look forward and also provides the opportunity to prepare and make sure the new year is the best it can be.

For that reason, I have two things I am looking forward to in January that could set me up for the best 2022 ever. And as you may imagine, they involve running and fundraising.

This week I was in beautiful Yorkshire with a mate, James, plodding along a stretch of the Pennine Way training for a race called the “Spine Challenger” which takes place in the second week of January. This race is 120 miles non-stop, and many don’t finish, which just adds to the excitement and the need to train. But it’s even more fun training with a friend who will run the race with me.

What makes this event even more special is that

I can link it up to my second thing to look forward to –

Prostate Cancer UKs “Run the Month” virtual marathon challenge. It’s a kind of New

Year’s resolution challenge, and as a way to get rid of the

2021 excesses, they are challenging people to complete the 26.2 mile marathon distance in January. You can do it in one go, as I plan to, or break it down into any distance that suits your fitness, even a mile a day with five days off!

By doing the challenge, participants will not only get fitter for the year ahead, but also raise a few quid to help reduce and, one day, hopefully put an end to the shocking total of 11,500 men a year who die of prostate cancer in the UK.

So what’s stopping you and perhaps a friend joining me? Sign up here at prostatecanceruk.org/ kev. It will kick off your year so well and give you an extra feeling of pride and worth by helping others and giving you something to look forward to for the new year.
