Tigers on the prowl

- By at the KCOM Stadium

GRANT McCANN insisted there’s still more to come from resurgent Hull after a fourth straight win.

Ryan Longman’s 53rd-minute strike pushed City further away from the drop zone as they found a way past Millwall at a rain-lashed MKM Stadium.

The Tigers are five points above the bottom three and boss McCann said: “The most satisfying thing is the way we’re being rewarded for our efforts.

“We scored a couple of good goals but also had to dig in and show our defensive qualities, so it was a great all-round performance and we’ve got a good momentum about us.”

The Tigers’ upturn has coincided with the return from injury of George Honeyman (above). Honeyman marked his 100th game for the club with a third goal in the last four matches, the midfielder heading home Jacob Greaves’ 29th-minute cross.

Millwall levelled in firsthalf stoppage time as Benik Afobe put Tom Bradshaw through to beat Nathan Baxter from 18 yards.

Afobe then headed badly off target before Baxter tipped his powerful drive over, while Bradshaw headed at Baxter who kept out a George Saville header from the resulting corner.

Longman followed up to stab home the winner – his first goal since joining on loan from Brighton – after Bartosz Bialkowski saved from Josh Magennis.

A fifth loss of the season leaves Gary Rowett’s side five points off the top six.

He said: “We didn’t do enough to win the game because you’ve got to be ruthless at the right times.

“We’ve not had that clinical edge in front of goal for a couple of seasons now.”
