Elijah earns Ful revenge

1 1

- Adebayo By JON WEST at Kenilworth Road

ELIJAH ADEBAYO punished Fulham after Aleksandar Mitrovic plundered his 22nd goal of the season for the Championship leaders.

Fulham let Adebayo go in 2019 without trying him in the first team.

But the 23-year-old showed his old club what they were missing by cancelling out Mitrovic’s opener.

Hatters boss Nathan Jones said: “They are the best two number nines in the league.

“In the Championship Mitrovic is a top player and Adebayo will get there.

“He doesn’t get paid as much as Mitrovic but pound for pound there is not a striker like him in the Championship.”

It was a fourth draw in a row for Fulham but they are two points clear at the top because Bournemouth lost to Blackburn.

Mitrovic caught Luton out from a set-piece in the 19th minute.

Harry Wilson’s free-kick was met by the head of Tosin Adarabioyo at the far post and when Sonny

Bradley blocked on the line the Serb accepted a simple tap-in.

Fulham looked secure until they too were undone by a set-piece delivered into the danger zone.

James Bree swung in a free-kick from the right in the 62nd minute for Adebayo to muscle his way ahead of challengers and send a header beyond Marek Rodak.

Luton survived a moment of pinball in their six yard box that required James Shea to parry and Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu to clear before Wilson forced Shea into another save.

But Bree could have won it for Luton after Kal Naismith ran 80 yards to set him up – but he fired across goal and wide.

Fulham were even more relieved in stoppage time when referee Thomas Bramall took no action when Hatters sub Fred Onyedinma was barged over by Joe Bryan.

“Their goal was offside and we should have had a penalty at the end,” Jones added.

Jones complained to the officials afterwards - as did Mitrovic and Fulham boss Marco Silva.

Silva said: “I was just asking about the two minutes of extra time.

“We reacted well to their goal from their set piece but we should have been playing like that before they scored.”
