Make the best of life and don’t worry

-

I love this time of year – for me, Christmas evokes so many happy memories. In fact I don’t have a single bad memory of anything Christmas related.

This week in my house the excitement started to rise as the tree was put up. We always replace the usual household ornaments and coffee cups with Christmas ones that only spend three weeks a year on display. Not only do I enjoy the festive spirit the decorations bring, but I also appreciate my usual display items more when they reappear in January. We don’t always see what is under our nose every day, do we?

When decorating the tree, the highlight for me is always putting on my Prostate Cancer UK “Man of Men” decoration. Its not shiny or the prettiest, but its the best for me because when I first put it up a few years ago I never thought I would have another

Christmas with the family.

But here I am with seven

Christmas celebrations since my two-year prognosis.

Amazing, eh?

Clearly I am not alone in thinking about prostate cancer at this time of year because the amazing singing

Marsh family have produced a witty and thoughtprovoking song, “Mack the Knife (Prostate Cancer, Facts of Life)”. The family have become a YouTube sensation with their songs over the years, but this one means more to them as John, another member of the family, had prostate cancer, but due to early detection and treatment, he is now cured.

You can see the video of this song on the Prostate Cancer UK website or just google “Marsh family Mack the Knife”. That simple action may start a discussion and keep your family together for longer, and there is no better gift than that is there?

I hope you all enjoy the run-up to Christmas and make the best of what you can control rather than worry about what you can’t.
