By at the Weston Homes Stadium MARK ROBINS praised his Coventry side for this away-day cruise after two-goal Matty Godden haunted his old club.

Godden’s slotted finish found the bottom-left corner on 25 minutes before the striker wrapped it up in injury-time.

That came after Gus Hamer’s thunderbolt broke the deadlock on 15 minutes, with Nathan Thompson’s own-goal in the 81st minute sealing the points for Coventry.

Peterborough had pulled one back through Jorge Grant on 38 minutes but remain in the relegation zone having won just one of the last 10 league games.

Sky Blues boss Robins said: “It’s a great result and a good performance, I’m delighted — it’s up there with our best away performance, I like it because it’s really tough here to come and play.

“It was hard-fought, Matty Godden’s first goal was a brilliant finish, we were well worthy of the win. Once we weathered the storm in the second half, we moved the ball really well and created some good opportunities.

“We’ve caught them on a day when we’ve played somewhere near where we need to be.”

Posh assistant manager Matthew Etherington was left frustrated after his struggling side shipped four goals at home for the first time this season.

He said: “The players and staff are down, Coventry were the better side and fully deserved to win.

“There were things that we didn’t do well enough, particularly in transition, they were a lot more aggressive against us, we weren’t good enough.”

Sky Blues midfielder Hamer opened the scoring, just as he did in the reverse fixture, with a stunning 25-yard effort into the top corner. And Godden doubled the lead with a clinical finish into the bottom-left corner after Ben Sheaf robbed Bali Mumba of possession deep in the Peterborough half.

Posh responded through Grant’s well-placed leftfooted effort into the top corner but never threatened a comeback.

Coventry hit the post through Callum O’Hare and Jamie Allen before Thompson put through his own net from Todd Kane’s dangerous left-wing cross.

Then, Godden completed the win in the first minute of added-on time.
