Matt: I’ve never watched show ..but I can’t wait

- EXCLUSIVE

HALINA WATTS Showbiz Editor POP legend Matt Goss has never seen Strictly, but he’s sure going on the show is what his late mum would have wanted him to do.

The Bros star has spent the last 11 years performing in Las Vegas but hopes his bandmate and brother Luke will visit the set to cheer him on.

Matt, 53, said: “Even though I haven’t seen it, I know Strictly is TV religion. I’m very confident as a man and at peace with myself but I really want to live more.

“My mum always said, ‘I want to see you smile from your eyes’. I have to find my peace and my happiness, and going on Strictly is part of that.

“I think my mum would have wanted me to dive into it… she definitely wanted me to be back in the UK.”

Mum Carol, who died in 2014, saw her sons spark Bros mania in the 1980s and go on to sell 16 million records with hits like

When Will I Be Famous? and

I Owe You Nothing.

READY

And Matt released his latest solo song this weekend, called Are You Ready.

Speaking to me at London’s Karma Sanctum Soho Hotel, Matt told how his new relationship with jewellery designer Chantal Brown is strong enough to stand up to the Strictly curse.

And he said he’s looking forward to making some new friends on the show – and getting a six-pack.

“I’ve been sparring three days a week and doing Pilates,” he said.

“I already have a firm bum but I only have a one-pack so hopefully I’ll get a six-pack.

“I want to feel sexy. At times, it’s nice to feel sexier.”

Matt’s one fear, however, is the social media glare that comes with joining one of TV’s top prime-time shows.

“I love being a private man,” he said. “I started in showbusiness when there was no social media.

“My safety net has always been to retreat but now I can’t do that so that’s the challenge.

“I was told to be cautious but I’m f***ing sick of being cautious… my team, including Keith Bishop and Ray Santilli, have made me feel safe again.”

COUNTRYFILE presenter Helen

Skelton was officially named as the final Strictly contestant for 2022 on Claudia Winkleman’s Radio 2 show

yesterday. Helen said she was “really excited to get stuck into

a fun adventure”.

ACTOR

Will Mellor will bring “pranks” and

“dad dancing” to Strictly, according to his best

pal and former Hollyoaks co-star, Jeremy Edwards. He

said: “Will is the funniest man I know. I hope viewers get to see that side of him. He will bring a

lot of energy.”
