INCHY: LAMPS NEEDS MORE GOODISON GOALS
FORMER Everton striker Adrian Heath feared for his old club before a ball was kicked in anger.
His Minnesota United side thrashed the Toffees 4-0 in pre-season to sound alarm bells.
And Heath – a two-time title winner during six glorious years with the Toffees – has urged owner Farhad Moshiri to splash the cash on a new striker to give Frank Lampard a chance to keep the club in the Premier League. “It was only a pre-season game and it was a much bigger game for our players because they were up against a team that they see on TV playing in the Premier League,” said Heath, known affectionately as ‘Inchy’ due to his stature in his playing days.
“But I did say afterwards that the one thing Frank needs is some reinforcements.
“I actually said to someone, ‘God forbid anything happens to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’ – and, the week before the season starts, the lad gets injured again.
“It’s in those forward areas that I worry for Everton because, regardless who you are, you need players on the pitch who will score you goals – otherwise you’re going to be struggling.
“Right now, it is looking difficult for Everton to score goals.
“There’s still a bit of time left in the transfer window, but it’s running out. They need to get someone in sooner rather than later.” The Toffees have failed to replace Richarlison, following his £60million departure to Spurs.
And, while Calvert-Lewin spent most of last season on the sidelines as Everton flirted perilously with relegation, the England star is now out for six weeks with a knee problem.
Heath added: “Last season, should have given everyone at Goodison a wake-up call.
“They can’t keep going through what they experienced. It was too close for comfort and there’ll be a time when they can’t escape.
“They need to put some major finance into the team.
“I feel sorry for the chairman because he has spent a lot of money already, but, at times, it hasn’t been spent wisely.
“The new stadium is around the corner, but it won’t be a good look going to a new ground if you’re not in the Premier League.
“If Frank can bring goals into the team, then they’ll be fine.”
