RUGBY LEAGUE

- By Gareth Walker

ON-FORM Stefan Ratchford should be fit for Warrington’s Challenge Cup semi-final despite being concussed in this Super League points-fest.

Ratchford opened the scoring and looked dangerous in the opening exchanges but left the field after 25 minutes and failed a head test.

But he was showing no ill effects later on and is expected to face Wakefield in Leigh on Saturday.

Coach Tony Smith said: “I would think he’ll be fine for next week, we j ust didn’t want to take any chances.”

Daryl Clark’s late try saved Warrington’s blushes against bottom club Huddersfield, for whom winger Gene Ormsby scored a hat- trick against his old club. Smith added: “If people came to be entertained then they were certainly entertained.

“There were some terrific tries, some action, some suspense, and finally for the home crowd some joy.

“But there were some aspects that were a bit frustrating with some of the errors that were made.

“We invited Huddersfield into the game at times. They y are not a bottom of the table team.”

New Giants bossss Rick Stone was encouraged aged by what he saw in his second game in charge.

He said: “Everyone e tells me this is not a bottom-two side but we keep finding a way to lose games.

“But we took some significant steps forward and gave ourselves a chance against a top team.” After early tries to Ratchford and Ben Currie, Huddersfield hit back with Ormsby finishing off two smart moves and Aaron Murphy touching down a Danny Brough kick. The excellent Ben Westwood hit back, stepping past the Giants defence. Nathan Mason forced his way over for the visitors bef before Chris Sandow and Ryan Atkins lo looked to have done enough for Wolves Wolves. Ormsby then co completed his hattrick and Craig H Huby gave them a two- point cushion,cu but on 76 minutes Clark landed the winner.winne
