- By Alan Wilson

VITO MANNONE insists the no-nonsense style of new manager David Moyes is the perfect fit for Sunderland.

The 53-year-old Scot snapped up the chance to become the club’s seventh manager in five years, less than 24 hours after Sam Allardyce quit for England.

It will be Moyes’ first Premier League job since being sacked 10 months into a six-year deal at Manchester United in April 2014.

And Italian keeper Mannone is backing Moyes to be an instant hit. He said: “He is a hard worker and that is all we need to know. For me, the best way is through hard work.

“Without that you cannot do anything and it is a base for us to make these fans proud.”

Moyes looked on from the stands at Rotherham yesterday as Fabio Borini opened the scoring. Danny Ward levelled, but Charles N’Zogbia sealed it with a superb finish.

Moyes, sacked by Spanish side Real Sociedad in November, will run the rule over his squad at their training camp near Lake Geneva this week, where they will play three friendlies.

And with just three weeks until the Black Cats kick off the season with a trip to Manchester r City, Moyes will have to act swiftly. The Black Cats have yet to sign any players due to the FA’s drawn-out chase of Big Sam. .

But Mannone was full of praise for the way Allardyce helped keep the club in the Premier League last season.

He added: “We have a solid base this time, the last gaffer didd a tremendous job.”

Rotherham boss Alan Stubbs, who played and was a coach under Moyes at Everton, said: “I think him and Sunderland are good fits for each other. The clubs needs a bit of stability and David will definitely bring that.”
