THE MOYES IS FROOME BACK IN TOWN ON THE CZECH BRINK ... but he is strapped for cash MATE

Bruce quit without a penny Big Sam set to recall Black Cats pal Defoe for Wembley clash

- By Neil Moxley by Steve Bates

STEVE BRUCE walked out on Hull City without any compensation after he failed to land three transfer targets.

The Geordie left in frustration following conversations over the club’s policy in the market with vice-chairman Ehab Allem.

Former Manchester United double-winner Bruce was caught in the crossfire as Hull’s owners were trying to sell the East Yorkshire club.

And his failure to secure three key captures in recent weeks led to him running out of patience.

Bruce went into meetings with Allem determined to push ahead his recruitment.

People Sport can reveal that he had wanted to take Nicky Powell from Manchester United before his switch to Wigan and had lined up a move for Senegalese brothers Ludovic Sane, a 29-year-old centre-half from Bordeaux, and sibling Salif who is playing for Hannover 96.

But Bruce was unable to cut a deal with his vice-chairman and decided that his four-year reign JERMAIN DEFOE is in line for a surprise England recall.

New England boss Sam Allardyce, whose first game will be against the Czech Republic at Wembley on September 1, is set to hand Defoe an international lifeline.

The former Sunderland manager, who has been given a two-year deal by the FA, was hugely impressed with Defoe’s contribution in helping the Black Cats escape the drop last term.

Defoe, now 33, scored 18 goals in all competitions – and if he starts the season in the same form Big Sam will consider him for his first squad.

Allardyce championed the striker’s cause for a Three Lions recall under Roy Hodgson.

But the call never came, and Allardyce will not hesitate
