-

will sneakily well- up behind their 3D glasses.

Oakes Fegleyley is wonderfully endearing as 11-year-old orphan Pete, who liveses in the forest with hiss bezzie Elliot, a friendly endly dragon.

The creatureure looks and acts ts like a giant green pet dog. Only one with wings andd the ability to o breathe fire and nd turn invisible.

Pete is a wild boy of the woods, in the same school as Mowglig from Disney’s recent Jungle Book reincareincarnation. The likeable BrBryce Dallas Howard is GraceGrace, a kindly forest ranger whwho doesn’t believe in dragondragons but does want to solve the mystery of Pete’s parents.parents Rob Robert Redford ford’s craggy cha charm is put to good use as Grace’s dad, a man who claimsc to have once encountered a flying lizard. Though set in the US, it was shot in the lush, mystical mountains of New Zealand. Kiwi actor Karl Urban stars as lumber mill owner Gavin. He wants to capture Elliot – and Pete risks losing his best friend, for ever.

It’s heavy on family values and friendship, with a folksy soundtrack that blends in well.

Big themes of grief and reconciliation are tackled head on. But despite this, you get wrapped up in this huge warm hug of a movie, much like Pete is by Elliot’s shaggy coat of hair.

It’s pure magic – and will slay even the hardest hearts.
